Fraud is a serious
and growing problem in all sectors of the economy. The latest statistics from
the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners reveal that organizations lose 7% of their annual revenues to fraud. The median fraud loss in that same study was $175,000, with more than 25% of reported frauds topping the
$1 million mark!
The presentation
will address three topics in forensic accounting and fraud examination: (a) types of fraud (b) forces that combine to induce
someone to commit fraud and (c) basic steps in fraud examination.
Dr. Hurt is
a Certified Management Accountant and a Certified Fraud Examiner and a Professor of Accounting at Cal Poly Pomona since 1987. Dr. Hurt received his Ph.D. in Management from Claremont Graduate University in 1991. Dr. Hurt is a member of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners who recently
formed an Inland Empire Chapter. Additional information about the organization

A short debate will be held after the talk.

Membership dues are $15.00 annually.
The organization is open to the public. The Society debates topical
local, national and international issues. These debates are aired on Channel 3, San Bernardino's Community Access Station.
The topic for our televised presentation in January 2010 will be
a panel discussion on health care.
The Inland Empire Debating Society Debate on Social Security will be aired
on Charter Channels 1 and 32 and Time Warner Channel 17.
